Best 3 pour over coffee kettles comparison
The pour over coffee kettle is one of the essential pieces of equipment you’ll need to make pour over coffee at home. While a key feature of pour over coffee kettles is the gooseneack spout that allows you to control the flow of water during the brewing process, there are plenty of other factors that differentiate each one so you definitely want to get the best pour over coffee kettle for your needs.
Since we’ve tested and reviewed a number of pour over coffee kettles, this post is a comparison of the overall best 3 kettles we’ve used and would highly recommend to home baristas.
1. Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Gooseneck Kettle
We highly recommend the Bonavita electric pour over coffee kettle to all coffee lovers, because it simply has the best features at a great price. Being able to heat your water to a set temperature retains its flavor and gives your coffee (or other beverages) better taste. It’s also convenient not having to use a thermometer and wait for the temperature to drop. Read our in-depth review for more details.
Capacity: 1 liter (1.7 liter option available)
Spout: Narrow gooseneck spout. Excellent pour control with a slightly faster flow rate but a more precise start-stop.
Handle: Fully attached plastic handle with pistol grip, comfortable but may be a bit too restrictive for some.
Build Quality: Quality stainless steel with heating element. The steel has a light build but as an electric kettle, its weight is well balanced. The base is well made with easy wipe-clean tactile button controls and a cord keeper at the bottom.
If you’re an everyday coffee drinker, you’ll appreciate the time and cost savings, as well as the richer and more flavorful pour over coffee you’ll get.
2. Fino Pour Over Coffee Kettle
Among all the stovetop pour over coffee kettles, this one has the finest craftsmanship with its solid build and finely welded spout and handle. The handle also offers the most comfortable grip of all the kettles we’ve tried, though that may not be a priority compared to the pour. Read our in-depth review for more details.
Capacity: 1 liter
Spout: Narrow gooseneck spout. Excellent pour control with a consistent flow. The spout is positioned close to the base, ensuring minimal residual water pooling in the kettle.
Handle: Curved angled handle, plastic
Build Quality: High quality 18/8 stainless steel, induction heater and stovetop compatible. The base is nice and solid and, unlike other kettles, the Fino has not gotten any complaints of rusting from its users. Lid fits comfortably.
While not a well-known brand in the coffee scene, the Fino pour over coffee kettle is a well-made exemplar of why “made in Japan” is still considered the best, yet it comes at a wonderfully low price. If an electric kettle is not an option, the Fino is definitely our first choice.
3. Hario V60 Buono Coffee Drip Kettle
While it’s ranked third in our list, the Hario pour over coffee kettle is still among the best that we’ve used and one that we would heartily recommend. In fact, it ranks below the Fino only because of the price – it just seems like we’re paying more just for the brand name. That said, the Hario performs very well when brewing pour over coffee and is a favorite of professional baristas. Read our in-depth review for more details.
Capacity: 1.2 liter
Spout: Narrow gooseneck spout. Excellent pour control with a consistent flow. The spout is positioned close to the base, ensuring minimal residual water pooling in the kettle.
Handle: Straight angled handle, plastic. A little awkward to hold but still allows great control over water flow.
Build Quality: Quality 18/10 stainless steel, induction heater stovetop compatible. The base is slightly less solid than the Fino, and lid fits loosely so it may fall out when tipped at a steep angle. There have been a few complaints of rust, but this should not be a problem if you empty and dry your kettle well after use.
If you’re wary of trying out new brands and want to stick to a trusted name for your coffee equipment, the Hario pour over coffee kettle is your best bet.
